Day 1: ‘Paul Robeson’ Tomatoes Planted Sideways

We’ve had an unusually long winter weather that sort of shortened spring and delayed the growing season.

Some starts developed leaves with purple veins and overall purplish tint due to cooler temperatures.  In this case, it may just be phosphorus deficiency which can be easily remedied.

These lower leaves will be removed before planting, and only top leaves will show when planted deep.  Bury a tomato plant’s stem and the stem will sprout a slew of new roots that help the plant grow sturdy and tall quickly.

I have been meaning to ask you, if you can help us with our garden. We just started an herb garden — just the basics first — a couple of months ago and we’re looking at moving to tomatoes and berries. It would really be cool if you can help us with choosing what to plant, what pots to get, etc. We have a decent sized patio (decent in city standards) and everything would need to be potted. Hope you’ll give us a hand!!

    • Jun, it will be a pleasure! Though I’m far from expert, I would love to help you and Dennis. What kind of tomatoes do you like? My best-yielding tomatoes are ALL container-grown. I’ll email you tomorrow! Have a great weekend!
